Ring Road Cluster Phonology Workshop (Mendankwe, Koshen, Laimbue and Njeng)

November 9 @ 8:00 am - November 19 @ 4:00 pm

This Phonetics and Phonology workshop with four language groups of the North West Region of Cameroon (Mendankwe, Koshen, Laimbue and Njeng) will take place at the CABTAL’s Bamenda Regional Training Center (BRTC). CABTAL’s linguistics consultant Mathaus Njeck alongside three linguistics specialists in African languages will be carrying out  an intensive study of speech sounds of these languages in this cluster, and the laws governing them,” particularly the laws governing the composition and combination of speech sounds in these languages. Therefore, this will include the  careful study of the sound patterns that occur within languages and the study of the production and description of speech sounds. At the end of this two week study, each of the language teams would be able to have a clear picture of their provisional writing system. More linguistic work on the orthography and alphabet, and the teaching of the writing system in respective communities in the days ahead would prepare them to begin literacy and Bible Translation activities.
